Stanford University Develops Model Contuining Education Program

Stanford University has announced an ambitious new continuing medical education (CME) program.  Unlike most CME junkets, which tend to be sponsored by pharmaceutical and device maker companies and often act as extended showcases for the products of the sponsors, Stanford's program will be devoid of such conflicts. The university plans to set up unbiased programs of postgraduate education on the Stanford campus.  Funding for the program comes from a surprising source - the drug maker Pfizer - though Pfizer will have no say in the program.

Applauding the program in the New York Times, IMAP's President David J Rothman was quoted as saying:

“It’s fair to say Stanford is once again leading the pack.  I will also confess I am surprised Pfizer is doing it, and I don’t know how many more times they will give money with no strings attached.”
