Conflicts of Interest Best Practices

AMC Conflict of Interest Policy Tool Kits

The following best practices recommendations reflect the ongoing study of conflict of interest by Columbia University's Center on Medicine as a Profession. The research team is conducting intensive case studies of healthcare organizations with innovative and effective policies for controlling conflicts of interest. Findings and recommendations on COI will be regularly incorporated as new policies become available.

These materials were also made possible by a grant from the state Attorney General Consumer and Prescriber Education Grant Program which is funded by the multi-state settlement of consumer fraud claims regarding the marketing of the prescription drug Neurontin.

Best practices conflict of interest guidelines are available for the following areas:

Gifts and Meals
Vendor Relations
Samples
Drug and Medical Device Procurement
Continuing Medical Education
Ghostwriting and Speakers' Bureaus
Exemplary Conflict of Interest Policies
