Task Force on the Role of Physicians in Managing Finite Resources:
A Collaboration between the ABIM Foundation and IMAP

The purpose of this project is to convene a task force of influential leaders from the profession to make recommendations on the role of physicians in managing health care resources. The goal is to have the profession take leadership of the issue of affordability and sustainability of the health care system.

A major focus of the Task Force will be addressing the conflict between the principle of the primacy of the patient with the commitment to manage resources on behalf of a community, population and society. The Task Force will explore how physicians can explicitly balance these often competing priorities in daily practice.

The Task Force will consider its recommendations in the context of a variety of practice settings, including large integrated systems and small practices.
